93 students returned from the New Forest on Sunday night following their practice Silver Expedition in the New Forest. They were accompanied by 18 members of staff; some were teachers and others were volunteers that came together to ensure that one of the largest King Alfred’s DofE groups ever had a great week-end in what were hot and humid conditions.
Phil Harrison, Vale Academy Trust Director, said “Due to great work being done by Juliane Spiers – DofE Manager – and her team, we are seeing tremendous growth in pupil numbers joining the triple award scheme. The DofE programme embodies all that the academy values and represents and the commitment of the team ensures that students have access to this wonderful opportunity and the support they need to achieve their awards”.
Liz Warren, one of the adult volunteers, added “The students were all polite, engaging and funny, despite the heat, sore feet and heavy packs! They were very well organised and throughout the weekend I witnessed excellent teamwork and moral support. I’m looking forward to supporting the upcoming Gold Expedition in a few weeks’ time”.
