King Alfred’s Senior Youthspeaks team made up of Clare St George (Chair), Hannah Hayward (Main Speaker), and Maddie Lewis-Hughes (who gave the ‘Vote of Thanks’) are County Champions following their performance at last night’s Oxfordshire round of the public speaking competition.
The girls’ speech was on “Brits and the Global Village”, exploring why the British are so reticent to learn another language. It featured an entertaining mix of humour and looked at the more serious challenges concerning the UK’s future, if the number of modern foreign language students continues to fall.
They will go on to represent Oxfordshire in the next round being held in Marlow next month. Well done girls!
