All at King Alfred’s Academy were delighted to see the Year 11 class of 2018 achieve such a good set of results, building on our outstanding A-Level results from last week. Students showed determination, dedication and resilience which has led to success across a broad curriculum for the students who today pick up their results after five years of hard work.
In GCSE English 85% of students achieved the Government’s benchmark of Grade 4 and above, while in Mathematics 69% of students achieved this result. In all, 66% of students achieved a Grade 9-4 in both GCSE Maths and English. This is an opportunity to celebrate individual successes and congratulate the students and their teachers; for many, their results have set them up to progress into King Alfred’s Outstanding 6th Form in September.
Many students achieved an outstanding set of GCSE results. In total 14 students achieved 6 or more of the top grades in their subjects. Particular mention should be made of Laurence Burzynski-White, Alexander James and Ema Ferjentsikova who all achieved 9 or more top grades – a magnificent achievement. Ciaran Kennedy, Skye Atkinson and a number of our students successfully managed to combine performing in our highly successful school productions with achieving an amazing set of GCSE grades. Notably, Ciaran achieved 7 top grades. A very talented young man!
We are also pleased to highlight the achievement of those students who have made significant progress during their time at King Alfred’s. Notably, George Rycroft, Alex James and Edward Beamont-Dickety, who achieved the highest rates of progress in their year group. This success only comes with hard work and determination. A huge congratulations to all of them!
Many King Alfred’s students continue to combine academic and sporting achievement. Having excellent results are even more impressive in the case of Edward Beamont-Dickety and Elizabeth Ireland who have combined their studies with competing at National Level in Biathlon and Nordic skiing respectively.
Acting Headteacher, Jonathan Smart commented, “We are able, once again, to celebrate the outstanding achievements of King Alfred’s young people. Countless hours of dedicated study and hard work by them and their teachers has really paid off and students have benefitted from being able to spread their studies over 3 years. All students, and, indeed, the staff involved should be rightly proud of themselves. We are delighted that so many of our students have achieved so well in the core subjects of English and Mathematics.”
