Free Magdalen College, Oxford University Residential for Year 12s - In-person (18-20th August 2026) 

  • Applications now open for the The Physics & Engineering Programme!

  • 40 participants will receive the opportunity to visit Magdalen for a three-day residential programme, with activities including Physics and Engineering taster sessions by Oxford tutors, tours of Magdalen and Oxford, and guidance about the Oxford admissions process.
  • Must be Year 12, predicted to get at least A*AA at A-Level (or equivalent) unless there is a reason why you are predicted lower.
  • Application Deadline: 17 June at 12pm.
  • It is entirely free for participants, including accommodation, food and travel.

  • Applications now open! The English & Classics Residential is being piloted by Magdalen in 2026 for Year 12 (or equivalent) students at UK state schools who are interested in applying to one or both of English, Classics or a related subject at university.
  • Must be Year 12, predicted to get at least AAA at A-Level (or equivalent) unless there is a reason why you are predicted lower.
  • Application Deadline: 17 June at 12pm.
  • It is entirely free for participants, including accommodation, food and travel.

Free "Carpentry Kickstart & Brickwork Bootcamp" – Wednesday to Fridays in person (Courses offered from 15th-31st of July OR 5th-21st of August)

Free Imperial Scholars Summer School for Year 12s - In-person and Virtual Events (27th-31st July) 

  • Imperial College in London is offering 2 Summer Courses to current Year 12s. This project is an opportunity for pupils who are now in Year 12 and interested in studying Biological Sciences and Biochemistry, or Chemistry at Imperial College, London.
  • Application Deadline: 22 May at 12pm.

  • Successful applicants will: 
    • Attend a series of tutorials with a researcher from Imperial
    • Produce a written final assignment on a cutting-edge area of research
    • Meet current students in the department
    • Attend a research seminar on a ground-breaking scientific area
    • Learn how to showcase your experiences on a UCAS application
    • Prepare for the transition from Year 13 to university
  • Graduates of the summer school who go on to enrol in the Department of Life Sciences or Chemistry will be eligible to receive a bursary to support a research internship of their choice.

Fully Funded University of Reading 4 Day Property Course for Year 12s - In-person Event (14-17th July, 2026)

  • The Henley Business School runs a residential study programme for Year 12 students.
  • All travel, accommodation and food will be paid for. 
  • Students will continue to be supported after their attendance.

  • Students who attend will be invited to carry out a work experience placement in October and participate in an e-mentoring programme.
  • This opportunity is ideal for students who have an interest in the property sector and who would like to learn more about the industry. Over the course of four days, your students will: Sit in on taster lectures; Visit a large development site and learn how they operate; Get involved in group projects and debates; Develop key skills such as networking and presentation skills; Attend a mini careers fair with leading names from the industry; Hear from industry professionals about the incredible career opportunities available via degrees and apprenticeships; Stay in our university halls, gaining a first-hand experience of university life.
  • The University of Reading will continue to support participating students through their Propel alumni programme sending them relevant information. If they choose to undertake a property industry focused degree or qualification, they will be eligible to apply for up to £30,000 in bursary funding and if they study Real Estate at Reading University they will receive a guaranteed conditional contextual offer plus a welcome bursary.

Free "Army Foundation College Harrogate Virtual Open Day" – Virtual Event (Wed 8th July, 2026)

  • The Army Virtual Open Day is the ideal opportunity for you to learn about becoming a Junior Soldier and what training and development opportunities are on offer at our world-class training facility.
  • This is your chance to step inside the Army Foundation College and explore what life, training and development are like for Junior Soldiers, with insight from the Commanding Officer. This is a great opportunity to get honest answers about training, education and Army life, and to find out whether Harrogate could be right for you.

Fully Funded University of Brighton 3 Day Summer School for Year 12s - In-person Event (7-9th July, 2026)

  • Our on-campus summer schools offer you the chance to try out what it’s like studying at university. You will get a chance to explore varied sessions during the day to give you a taste of different courses.
  • At our residential summer schools, you will also be involved in social activities in the evening, and overnight stays in our halls of residence – all supported by our current students.

  • Subjects for 2026 include: Art and media;  Engineering;  Health professions;  Humanities;  Science;  Social science;  and Sport.

Free "UK University and Apprenticeship Fair" - In-person event hosted at Oxford Brookes University (Wed June 17, 2026 - 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM)

  • Recommended for Year 12-13 students and parents. 
  • UK University and Apprenticeship Search will be returning to Oxford Brookes University this summer! This exciting and informative event will provide attendees with the opportunity to speak to a multitude of exhibiting universities and apprenticeship providers.
  • Attendees will include: Russell Group, red brick and modern institutions, as well as apprenticeship providers and local colleges.
  • Special features at this fair will include campus tours showcasing many of this prestigious university's fantastic facilities.
  • The fair will feature a wide range of vital seminars including: “UCAS Personal Statement & Application Advice”, “Why take an Apprenticeship”, “Choosing a University Course”, “Higher and Degree Apprenticeships” and “Student Finance”.

  • Work experience placements are becoming more difficult to secure for young people.
  • With the tightening of safeguarding and health and safety regulations for those under 18, shifting workplace norms and increased competition for limited placements, young people are missing out on essential early industry exposure.

£10 "NHS Allied Healthcare Work Experience session" – Virtual Event (Sunday May 3, 2026 – All day)

  • Students will explore the crucial elements of Road Traffic Collisions (RTC) whilst being guided through various allied health careers by exploring the journeys of two patients from initial presentation to full recovery. Students will gain invaluable perspectives on patient care dynamics and the collaborative efforts within the NHS, including exploring careers within: Nursing; Midwifery; Paramedicine; Physiotherapy; Occupational Therapy; Dietetics; Radiography; Prosthetics and Orthotics; Speech and Language Therapy; and Pharmacy.
  • Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals throughout each day. This will empower students to make informed career decisions and demonstrate their commitment to healthcare in their UCAS applications. 
  • Once they’ve registered, students will be emailed links to their virtual work experience portals.
  • Students are awarded a Work Experience Certificate for every session they complete. Those who complete the full 6-month programme (6 sessions from May to October) will be awarded a Highly Commended Reference from the Presidents of Allied Healthcare Mentor. These are fantastic additions to their CVs!

Free "How to Maximise Every GCSE Mark" – Virtual Event (Thurs March 26, 2026 – 19:00-20:00)

Free NHS Gap Year Scheme – In-person Event (Wed March 25, 2026 – 3.25pm)

  • Open to all parents and students.
  • This talk is presented by Caroline Burgess and Michelle Whitcomb and will go over the opportunities for students to apply for a role in Health care during a gap year after Year 13. 
  • Newbury Street Practice at the Wantage Health Centre on Mably Way, is looking for a young person interested in a one-year placement, predominantly working with the administration of the practice. Regardless of whether they are interested in working within the Health Sector, this is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a team and find out more about the running of a nationwide organisation such as the NHS. If your child is interested in this, please have them come along to this talk. 
  • Even if you are not in Year 13 currently, this is an established gap year scheme that runs each year so you may see if it is an option for you in the future. 
  • The event does not require a booking and will take place in the Sixth Form Auditorium.
