Character Development Award
The Character Development Award Scheme
At King Alfred's we feel that education is about so much more than exam results, and we need to create opportunities for all students to develop their personal skills and their strength of character so that they can flourish in this complex, competitive and often challenging world. We feel the Character Development Award does just that.
The Character Development Award was introduced in 2019 with the intention of developing character and interpersonal skills which, we hope, will make our students more adaptable, self-confident and ultimately more employable in a rapidly changing workplace.
A feature of the programme has always been the involvement and support of local businesses and employers. Our award sponsors are Carter’s Construction, Crown Packaging, Infineum, Ricardo, Sainsbury’s and Williams F1. We aim to work with a variety of local employers and businesses and if you feel that you, or your company, would like to be involved please email lavis@ka.vale-academy.org
The Character Development Award is a progressive award and students will start at Bronze level and move to Silver and then Gold. There is also a separate Character Development Award aimed at our Sixth Form students.
To complete their award, students must complete 10 of the 20 challenges available and share sufficient evidence with a member of staff to have their award verified. Students are encouraged to complete these challenges independently and their tutor and Head of House will support and guide them.
The challenges available reflect our diverse academic curriculum, enrichment opportunities and our core principles of Respect, Tolerance, Responsibility, Knowledge, Curiosity and Resilience.
